ADReact! By, Patti Davison Close Window

My name is Patti Davison. I am one of the Colorado Facilitators. My son Danny had SJS a little more than a year ago. He is my hero!!!

This article is not about Danny though. He will be interviewed on Julie's page. It is about what I learned and what I continue to learn about prescription drugs on a daily basis. And the truth is I have become a wellness advocate and educator. And that is because I not only want to, but I believe I have to.

This story is about my husband Joe and his reaction to Crestor. Joe went to the doctor for a routine physical and had his cholesterol checked. The doctor prescribed Crestor for his high cholesterol. The doctor told Joe that he might have some muscle pain. Well, the exercise enthusiast that Joe is, he thought nothing of sore muscles. After all, he road the Ride the Rockies Bike Race!!

He started taking Crestor and within a few days his muscles started to ache. He continued on thinking no big deal. Well as the weeks wore on he literally could not get out of bed. He would lay in bed for 15 minutes trying to muster up the strength to move. And then he would sit up and just sit there for another bit of time to get out of bed. He would finally get out of bed and he could barely walk. He walked like a very old man.

I told Joe he needed to stop taking the medicine. He did. He told me he would rather die of high cholesterol than take a drug like this again. He told me he felt like it was eating his muscles. I spoke with a nurse after the incident and she told me that Joe was really lucky that he healed back to normal because she said it really does eat your muscles!!! It took months for Joe to feel right again.

I am writing this because I would like to hear your stories. Not just the SJS/TEN stories but other ADR stories that have changed your lives. I have started a group called ADReact. Here we can share and help each other out. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ADReact

I am also interested in talking about wellness products that have made a difference. Since Danny and Joe's horrific experiences I have become a true wellness advocate. Jean has taught me a lot about prescription drugs and I have learned so much about alternatives.

I only wish that I could turn the clocks back long enough to erase Danny and Joe's pain and everyone else's as well. My intent is to share everything I learn as I continue on my learning experience. You all can help by sending me your stories. I will be publishing them on this sight as I get them.

Thanks Jean for allowing me to do this.
